As many businesses already know, but few have readily   addressed, HMRC are introducing new and significant changes and challenges to the way Pay as you Earn, (PAYE) will operate from April 2013.

The Key Challenge, the end of manual records

A major change and challenge is that employers will no longer be able to process their payroll calculations by the manual method. All employers will now be required to complete their payroll by computerised software and submit the information online to HMRC on or before their payment day.

This will mean weekly, monthly or four weekly returns.  For employers with less than nine employees the HMRC recommend that employers should use their tools calculator, however if during the year more than the nine staff are employed this would need to be updated to other HMRC RTI compliant payroll software.  This will significantly increase work for many.

Our help with the process as we are already ahead of the game

MGC Hayles volunteered to be part of the HMRC Pilot scheme and with the support offered by our software partners, Sage we were accepted and are currently processing and reporting some of our payrolls.   Sage offered some very useful webinars which we used and this assisted us in the first stages of reporting.  We will be running seminars with Sage in February 2013 to help those businesses still unsure of what is required.

Our practical suggestions to you

For all employers (including an employer who is currently using the HMRC tools software), Sage, other software and for those still processing wages and salaries manually, HMRC have started to send out mail shots to advise of the changes and the date the new RTI becomes effective for them.

Many employers will be fully compliant and conversant with the processing and the new changes, however for the employer who is finding the changes a little daunting may we take this opportunity to offer our support and guidance in the first few months of the changes.

Our workshops offering help

We are currently in the process of arranging small groups of employers to attend workshops at our offices in Leicester, Nottingham and Birmingham, where we can discuss the new changes and answer any questions you may still have.  These are provided free to our clients, but we do have space for others on a first come, first served basis, and we would encourage you to join us with this.

After the workshops you may wish to have further assistance which we can arrange on a personal basis and would be happy to discuss and agree how we can help you further with this rather complex area.

As a full professional service business, MGC Hayles provides a full and comprehensive payroll support as a separate support service and we are already prepared and ready to deal with the challenges of Real Time Information.

If you would like a quotation for this complete payroll package, please do not hesitate to speak to Lynne Ellis at our Leicester office, Tel 0116 233 8500, who is our payroll and RTI specialist and is delivering the workshops and advice across the firm.  Lynne has considerable experience with PAYE/NIC issues, including systems as well as the challenges in dealing with HMRC and she is always happy to offer this help to our clients and future clients.
